Corruption Puzzelment

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Whether one is focused on fossil fuels and climate change, endangered species, education, consumerism, or healthcare, all of the above have their degree of corruption. What might be the solution? (Image by deviantart)

Corruption Puzzlement

From where does such come?

Paths of growth,
molecule by molecule,
osmosis bringing some,
birth bringing many.

All perform their purpose…

An effort to maintain balance
through leaf,
berry,
the evolved creature,
man.

Yet unknown to most…

Forces concealed
by nature,
by technology,
by deceit,
tempt the dangerous walk
upon ice too thin to trust.

Nature warns us…

As unregulated social media technology but implores us,
all while gluttony takes aim,
circumventing any and all boundaries.

Like a flame unquenched,
envy and desire ignores climate change’s temperature
amidst one’s unbridled drive.

Sad…

Once man’s consciousness of love's caress,
now but flounders in duplicitous habit:
if I can't have it,
you can't either.

What’s happening?

Grown up children trapped
by fantasy-imbued populous expectations:
clothes,
nips,
tucks,
lifts,
implants,
botoxification,
and lest we forget,
Platinum cards.

Yet distinct from unlimited plastic,
or yellow-reds and blues in a bottle,
the attendant poisonous infliction on one's mind
remains an open wound of ignorance,

where malice hides,
waits,
gently revs its engine,
then creeps,
until…

While sentience sleeps
and vulnerability lies naked,
corruption leaps.

And yet...

Some of us choose to believe—
as long as breath remains in abundance—

to think,
to do something beyond this acid veneer,
something akin to the beginning,
when life was Nature's innocent gift,
when a baby's need was to grow with rejoicing,
not regret.

You sure pulled my thoughts with this one. There is a television show called American Greed. It seems there are no end to the kinds of greedy schemes and scams that people will do for the love of money. Fortunately, most people aren't that way until it comes to college exams that may be linked to future employment. Studies have shown that most college students, when given the opportunity, will cheat on their exams. It seems that cheating, in all aspects of life, is rampant among our society.

Excellent write and very thought provoking. It will always be true that absolute power corrupts absolutely. I often wonder what would happen if we ran out of fossil fuels. Would things get better or worse?
