Suffering's Evil Rift

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

With more armed troops in Washington now to protect the inauguration than the total of troops in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria combined, one is left wondering how this all started.

Suffering’s Evil Rift

What is it about suffering
we flirt with it
conquer with it
even live with it
doing little about it

Insatiable appetite this

Maternal reality prepares
woe-laced Pabulum
for highchair dependents
gotta stay ahead of the curve
start'em young

Suffering loves to suffer

Reality-beat paternal puppets
tormented with each morning's commute
sharpen pencils while sipping their third cup
meet and greet the boss
quick stop restroom relief
back to cubicle nightmares
oh made so vivid by overhead florescent green

Even the lunch break is green
hero sandwiches of suspect leakage
odoriferous wanderings of mayo
like rancid boar grease escape
meat the color of slaughterhouse waste

Suffering grins

Could have had a V-8
could have brown-bagged from home
but suffer you must
repackaged Pabulum therapy
makes its way from
bowl to sandwich
lager to Jack straight up
smoked-drags to connect-the-dots on your arm

Meanwhile

Back at the ranch
keeping up with the Joneses
or is it the Kardashians today
sleep-deprived coulda-been-a-contender mumsy
pops a few green ones
marks the time
places two purple ones on the counter
chases the swallow with some Chablis
while smiling at over-fed highchair dependent
drifting
slumping
cooing perplexity
waiting out the early years of prep

For

Suffering is omniscient

Knows the duplicitous seldom step out of their guise
choosing to pretend the impossible
while portending the inevitable
after all
we love it
right?
delusions seem easy
prove we're still alive
right?

Right?

Just a matter of time
grins suffering
when choice is offered
invest further
cash out
or...

Let's join hands

Bow our heads

Suffering is patient

Especially when recruiting

More extremists

The IQ curve is a truth-teller that locks one into a world from which there is no escape--much like a black hole where the norms of humanity thrash about into a stream of spaghetti-fied shit.
