Poem Artwork

Sunrises In the Dark

Poetry readers,
listeners,
and the curious.

Might it be
poets escape demands?
They Do
rather than
Be?

Is it not possible
dignity's survival depends
on being detached
from that which
wishes
to attach?

Could such inner freedom
liquefy shackles
of riches,
of fame,
of expectation?

And...

Is it possible
rewards reside
in dances with words,
while others labor language
to serve,
to validate,
and inure to attachment
to other controlling others?

Perhaps...

Spirits generous
remain
uncontainable,
like water running
around
and over
stones
and other
obstacles impotent
to imprisonment.

For some...

Aloneness
protects true peace,
the calm voice
whispering a language of fire
from a forever candle,
a flame impervious to storm,
its extinguish-proof seclusion secured.

Yet…

Humble we must be,
for we are but stand-ins
for sunrises in the dark,
we poets,
we purveyors of
obscurity's blissful density.

Dances with words, how I love that line. A powerful poem.

"obscurity's blissful density." So, in other words, the nebulous joy of creative dimensionality. Step out onto the planet. Draw a circle a hundred feet around. Inside the circle are 300 things nobody understands, and maybe nobody’s ever seen. How many can a poet find? Thanks for sharing. rlc

Other than the stanza,

"Might it be
poets escape demands?
They Do
rather than
Be?"

Where I thought the Do and the Be should be reversed, I agree wholeheartedly with your perspective.

Philosophers and poets do the some of their best work when isolated from the rest of society where they are able to think clearly without being involved, day-to-day in the active "doing" of whatever they were doing before. But one must have some prior active life in order to be a very good philosopher because nothing like experience teaches us how to behave.

This one is filled with interesting word images. Especially the title and the last line.

Sunrises in the Dark is a very powerful image, Odin. "Humble we must be" for we are not the sunrise but, perhaps, at times, a part of the darkness?

I especially enjoyed the lines "whispering a language of fire
from a forever candle"

That thought will stay with me!

Thanks for sharing.

Blessings,
~Ann

That's what we are, Odin! Poets are a bunch of "purveyors of obscurity's blissful density." It's a literal Fair out there!

"Is it not possible
dignity's survival depends
on being detached
from that which
wishes
to attach?"

These words go deep!!!

Love ya!

Jane
