Tomorrow's Life Canvases Unknown

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

So much of life today is pictured in black and white simplicity, right and left opinions without truth, up and down relationships without lasting foundations, and then the creative minds being governed by safety nets of corporate greed. Yes, there’s more to the Writers’ Strike today than the importance of the written word. This may be a strike impacting many corners of living when one tabulates the number of hours each day the general populous watches TV, listens to music, or becomes lost in social media… most of which are predicated on the written word.

Tomorrow's Life Canvases Unknown

Life's mind colors
Like the number paintings stored in attic webs
Become dust covered pleasures of memories past
When Ferris wheels rotated dreams
Calliope horses pole-galloped gently
Cotton candy played catch-me-if-you-can

How easy awareness painted the future
Laid down the colors most apparent
Reds of sunset passions
Blues of ebb and tide
Yellows of cornfield mazes
Green making all the landings plush as summer lawn

Primary hues
Like even-numbered shapes
Fall short the color containment
Boundaries bleed
Chance pushes risk
Mustards find full-up dance cards
Purples hemorrhage bruises once flawless cover
Gray becomes reality's true color
No blacks
No whites

Simple brush strokes
Evolve to palette knife strata
Thickness of time layers over
Numbered boundaries
Melt away
Framed borders cease to be

How wonderful
This wanderlust
Wisdom's gift-wrapped beginning
Ever grateful the loft-stored memories
Thankful the web's defending watch
Such protects time-made colors
Now with no names
No identity

Initiation's flirtatious way
Patiently mixing
Aroused shades
Tints
Dyes to be cast

I love the way you refer to the unknown future as an unfinished, indeed an incipient painting about to be filled in with flourish (or dull colors as the case may be). We are all apart of the supreme painter's palette, waiting to drawn or be drawn.

I recall last year's paucity of TV series because of the shutdown caused by the pandemic ended up in fewer scripts written and performed for the upcoming season. That is now corrected, but this new strike may cause the same effect for next year's offerings. I hope not.

Not that I have to depend on contract writers for all my viewing reading, but they are nice distractions with never-ending drama and twists. That is, until they become stale and start repeating.

Fortunately, like your words suggest, the variety of access and program continues to blossom at a rate of speed that no one can keep up with.

In my case, I don't have to read or see another program. I can simply just keep on writing like I do for free and offer to the public free if they care to read.

I agree that nothing in life is either black or white. Sometimes it’s gray, sometimes it’s in all the colors of the rainbow. Sometimes feelings are strong enough to make all the colors around so bright and beautiful that it seems like everything is covered in a heavenly glow.
As poets we also travel in time to collect dust that we turn into something beautiful so we can let it go a little more. Or we travel in time to collect diamonds and try to convey those feelings into something otherwordly beautiful so we can hold on to them forever and continue to live in gratitude for the great fortune we have.
Thank you for this piece of inspiring writing.

Great title, and the painting, (to me) an indistinct canvas waiting for tomorrow's details to arrive. Your unique way of imaging your explorations, Odinsan, reveal to me a man who has been through a lot in his life and soaked up every color and smell and detail along the way. For a Writer/Poet, having some kind of influence and power to get things done is always good. But remaining a creative nomad, facing difficulties and new challenges to overcome, is necessary to continued growth. Enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing. Peace.... rlc
