Vicarious Reality

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

For most, there will be a time of being without family, friends, loved ones, and acquaintances of worth. Aloneness thus becomes a challenge many succumb to, while others conquer. (painting “Christina” by Wyeth)

Poem Artwork

Vicarious Reality

Slowly the distant land came within reach

Quietly the stranger at the bus stop became friend

Quickly the routine became the norm.

How mindful the conscience of truth

Never demanding

Always understanding

Forever familiar

She made sure to walk

She knew the ways of nature

She caught many a friendship with flowers

Stray animals

The ocean’s flotsam

The overhead rainfalls

And so…

Between the echo of past voicings

The new routines of aloneness

The acceptance of singular care

The control over loneliness

One’s “inevitable” endurable

Vicarious reality proved to be a many-layered companionship

Assisting her threading of the needle into delicate balances unknown.

Often, a stranger, rather than one thought to be a long time friend will break the silence of aloneness with a simple smile or gesture. And I'm living proof that living alone can be just as wonderful as within the noise of a busy household.

Strange though, how you would steer the prosetry away from from yourself to her, whoever she would be.

Lot's of poignant images here, Odin. Familiar feelings yet offered from a new angle. I especially enjoyed

She made sure to walk

She knew the ways of nature

She caught many a friendship with flowers

Stray animals...

Beautiful and thoughtful.

Thank you.
