Lament
In the calmer hours,
when the world slumbers,
lamentation stirs,
the specters of choices passed.
Murmurs of what-ifs
reverberate in the mind,
recalling pathways not taken,
branches of chance in the roads,
all missed.
Remembrances replay,
like old silent movie reels,
scenes of moments,
where words were left unsaid.
The heft of actions
strain the heart,
where burdens carried
through the years
weaken the resistance against more.
Eyes look back,
searching for solace
in false fronts of yesterday,
where pain continues illuding peace.
Still…
In the sun’s rising,
a fresh day begins,
where learning presents itself once more
a new time to grow,
a chance to mend.
For in regret,
lies compassionate understanding,
a nurturing of wisdom,
an escort for the future.
As we age we shouldn't let past control our future except as stated in the last stanza, use the wisdom acquired to move on with more compassion and understanding.
