Vulnerable Passion

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

So often one only hears or witnesses passion as the in-bed type. But, our lives have many expressions of passion if we protect and respect such emotions. (Image by Odin AI)

Poem Artwork

 Vulnerable Passion

Nature stirs an excitement with a flower’s bloom,
its petals unfurling in the morning light.

A piece of music’s echo lingering in the air,
a lost love’s betrayal, a wound that never heals,
a child’s naivete over a stranger’s offer of candy,
innocence meeting the world’s harsh truths.

A grandmother’s trust in a salesman,
his eyes gleaming with greed,
obsessed with money at any cost.

The world spins on, indifferent,
to the passions that drive us,
the proclivities that define us.

Each moment a testament,
to the beauty and the pain,
of being human.

This morning’s surprise = The neat part I find, about the privilege we have in the AD to accompany our words with images of our choice, is that readers’ visual curiosity leads the way into the image first, then the written art. This image had me pouring over it before I even saw it is Odin AI. As I studied the elements of that scene, I was already formulating my comment that you find the most intriguing artwork to bring to the table. And now you are ‘creating’ that artwork yourself. I love this new extension of your mind. I see the piano keyboard, I wonder at the shape that is like a bean and what is in the sack, and the objects on the staircase, and what is the small person reaching towards. My favorite eye-rest is the old man beneath the flower. I feel like I am him. Your lines are harmonious with this illustration in their ability to speak of the music in the air reminding of a past time of love lost to betrayal, in the stark and relatable vision of contrast between the twinkle in an old woman’s eyes right there next to the greed in her offender’s slick glint. “…proclivities that define us.” I find that we inhale and exhale our proclivities. Much meat on the bone here, Odin*. ~~ djl

Yes, our passions can be very fruitful or they can be harmful as you have so wonderfully illustrated in your posting.

A wise poem, Odin. It touched my heart and my thoughts.
