Retired from Law enforcement several years ago. Happy in my new life choice of careers I realize now what I don't miss about the old ball and chain career. This is my rendition of 'Take This Job and Shove it, I ain't working here no more'.
I won’t miss the street fights
Nor working predawn hours and late nights
The incessant demand for empty stats
Mean spirited sergeants, and IID Rats
It’s good not to have to see abused wives and kids
Recounting events and trying to make sense of what I did
The junkie with a hankering for a fix
Showing up to work even when I’m sick
The irate citizen claiming to have paid my wages
Trying to memorize the G.O.’s infinite pages
Politicians claims of decreased crime
Upper Commanders with less sense and too much time
Implementing procedures with no reason or rhyme
Young men dying in pools of blood out on the street
Rookies claiming to have accomplished great feats
Being compared to the rogue cop who took a bribe
Lumped in with the likes of crooks who contrive
To do anything but work a honest job
No I won’t miss being blamed for society’s plight
When I put my ass at risk on these mean streets every night!

It amazes me how police officers lay their lives on the line 24/7 to keep the peace, but the overall consensus that society has toward police officers is negative. Go figure.
Trina, I know that job has to be one of the highest levels of stress that one can have. If you worked on those streets long enough to retire I know you deserve to now sit back and relax. So enjoy it! Lisa
