A Moment of Thanksgiving

Stepping outside, I welcome the birth of a new day

Pausing for a moment to breathe in the cool morning air

I watch in awe as a paintbrush quietly colors the clouds

And the light from angels turns golden their edges

Haloed by the rising sun

The mountain stands proud and purple

A symbol of unyielding strength and grace

All is silent as I absorb the beauty of the emerging day

I feel my spirit slip into a new dimension of awakening

Amazed by the beauty that surrounds me and graces my vision

A chevron of geese drift across the morning sky

Their voices calling out encouragement to all who listen

I lay awe-struck in my hammock reflecting upon my blessings

Surrounded by more than I understand or could have ever hoped for

I watch as leaves hop along the grass aided by a soft breeze

And know that this moment, this lifetime, was created just for me

How great and how small I feel within the grand scope of it all

In silent prayer, I take a moment to give thanks for this new day

For all that I am and for this life that I have been granted

For family and good friends and for my birth in this free land

One of the feral cats that I care for  (I call him "Magic")

Stops by for a morning scratch before he has his breakfast

Reminding me that only with a filled spirit does hunger truly cease

I wonder if he knows that his trust has taught me this lesson

I can taste the excitement of the day pouring into the crisp morning air

While the warm sun chases the shadows of night from the mesa

The wind whispers a prayer of Thanksgiving, I inhale the breath of God

And understand that all of life is a blessing
