OOZE The knife plunges the heart
something they don't tell
you at the start
when first you gaze
at the pink new wonder
who coos, gurgles, and
eyes you back, dazed,
as ever will be the case.
The knife twists
on its one-inch axis.
Love pulses, greening
the ruby riverbeds.

Both with picture and poem, you have captured an essence of that greatest of all unknowns; the fetus, who will someday become a messiah or a serial killer or, God help us, another inept president.
