Disposable Angels
The enormous elm regales the yard
with a near-death experience, its
verdure yielding to yellow almost as bright
as a messiah's white soul.
Yellow will orange, and red blooden
the leaves before they drop like disposable angels.
Then the breathtaking bones will flay the borrowed sky
until spring teases their sleepy treacle thoughts
and they leaf their lanugos and grand green gowns.
