"Capricorn Rising," by Julianza Shavin: multimedia/found/recycle art. My father was a Pisces, but he passed away during the the time of Capricorn. Capricorn Corporation was the name of his publishing company.

This was begun on March 2, 2008, which would have been my father's eight-second birthday. He passed away in 1988 just before turning sixty-two. Music was magic to him.

Prelude

for my father, who art not

The trees are unmoving against night's shroud

the deciduous hundred-armed ones like gigantic

splayed brooms, and the evergreens piercing the loom

of sky, proudly hoarding their finery in the frigid clime.

I am in awe of their refusal to surrender, but it is

the barren I adore, which are more like me: vulnerable,

trembling beneath burdens on willowy bones.

Zigzagging the heavens, their frailty is secretly potent.

Soon the sap will rise, and eager leaves unfurl, those

kaleidoscope kittens stretching from slumber;

the air will mazurka magics of scent and shape and hue.

Oh, I do so love the seeming-dead; it is they who whisper

that things are not what they seem;  that winter is no demon,

but a precious prelude to spring.

Julie, I'm sure your father would be pleased and proud of this.
You should be too. -gene.

Leave it to you, Julie, to give me a serious thought in the midst of what has been a smart-alec night at work :-)

In a way, I have always loved the forest winter, when all of these aged green people are resting, regenerating, hibernating, quietly sleeping until their sudden surge in spring. Pure magick!!!

Blessed are those that keep the memory of the parents, for they will never lose their identity.

I have enjoyed the reading of "Prelude".

In respect,

Julie,

Lovely. Excellent imagery and capture of the process of fall.

Thank you, ~D.
