'Tears ebbing like the tide.'

Poem Artwork

A simple manual skill

Sung somewhat off-key

A knife out of sheath

Non-refundable project.

Blood drips from vein

Victim now identified

Loving father of two

Owed money to the mob.

Cord of braided leather

Deceased tied tightly up

Dumped in cold water

Burial at wharf side.

Boondoggler steps on bricks

Rain courses down hard

Puddles form like wet cement

Going to collect his dough.

Body floats to level surface

To late for mouth-to-mouth

Identified at city morgue

Tears ebbing like the tide.

Mob picks up fingered paper

Use to line stoolie’s cage

Send out new boondoggler

Goes on hunting spree.

Boondoggler one cross hair sights

Moves at last instant nicked

Jumps the train to nowhere

End of story . . .

Robert H. Link, you are intense. Choking on their words, these characters never had a chance against cold-hearted thugs such as these. Should have listened to Shakespeare being taught in school, while they goofed in the back of the class. "Neither a borrower, nor a lender be."
