The promises of God

Heavenly Father

Another soul is on the way,

Your gates are open wide

And though I tried to pray him back,

You've welcomed him inside.

A sacrificial human being.

With faith in Jesus Christ,

A precious soul whose loaf of bread,

Gave everyone a slice.

So as your angels welcome him

And love him every day.

Tell him that I miss him so

And wanted him to stay.

But I can't over rule your call

Or change what has been done.

So I’ll just trust your rainbow's real

And grandpa's riding one.

Age 98 of Wyandotte. Beloved husband of Nannie. Dearest father of Sue (Ellsworth) Lyvinsov, Becky Henig, Nancy (Denny) McClain, John (Chris) Martin, and the late Barbara Heffner. Dear brother of James Martin. Survived by 17 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation Wednesday 1-9 p.m. Services Thursday 11 a.m. at R.J. Nixon Funeral Home, 2544 Biddle Ave., Wyandotte (734) 284-1600. Interment Ferndale Cemetery. Contributions to Alzheimer's Assoc. or the Youth Group at Gateway Church of Christ, Southgate.

William Martin (Grandpa) lived at home with his wife Nannie (Grandma) of 75 years until January 2004.

Grandpa loved God, family, friends, Detroit Tiger Baseball, shooting pool, gardening and fixing bikes.

Grandpa attributed his long life to Daily Bible reading and eating a bowl of ice cream everyday. As for what kind of ice cream, pick your favorite.

I never heard Grandpa say anything bad about anyone and that makes him the only person that never said anything bad about me and probably you.

He will be missed, but through faith in Jesus Christ I will see him again.

Can anyone ever replace a grandpa? No way! I miss mine continually. If ever this world needed those folks from that "Greatest Generation", it would be now. Nice tribute. Come see my "Grandpa" poem if you get time. It got published in "Chicken Soup for the Grandparent's Soul". Thanks for sharing.
