Lalo James Carrion of Quincy dies Wednesday January 25, 2006 in a crash between his pickup and a tractor-trailer.

HUDSON TWP. - A Quincy High School student died Wednesday morning on M-34 in Lenawee County in a crash between the pickup he was driving and a tractor-trailer.
Lalo James Carrion, 18, of Quincy was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash a half-mile west of M-156, according to the Lenawee County Sheriff's Department. Sgt. Dan Rudd said Carrion was driving eastbound on M-34 at 9:51 a.m. when, for an unknown reason, his pickup crossed into the westbound lane. The left, front part of the pickup struck the left, front corner of a westbound tractor-trailer driven by Kathy Ann Faltynowicz of Box Elder, S.D.
Faltynowicz was not injured, Rudd said. Both drivers wore seat belts.
Deputies at the scene described the road as snowy or wet, Rudd said, but it is unclear if road conditions played a role in the crash.
School in Quincy was closed Wednesday due to icy roads, according to The Daily Reporter of Coldwater. Some school districts in Lenawee County closed or delayed the start of school Wednesday for the same reason.
Rudd said the principal of Quincy High School told him Carrion was driving to Adrian College for an appointment.

QUINCY — Lalo James Carrion, 18, of Quincy, died in Adrian, in an auto accident, on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006.
He was born on Dec. 16, 1987, in Coldwater, to Lalo and Karen (Lincoln) Carrion.
He was a senior at Quincy High School, where he was active in football, wrestling, track, and band. He was a member of the Michigan State Police Explorers Program. He enjoyed music, sports, and spending time with his friends and family. He was employed at Applebee's in Coldwater. He took his role as older brother very seriously.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Coldwater, with Rev. Fr. Brian L. Stanley officiating. Burial is at Fisher Hill Cemetery, in Branch County.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Gillespie Funeral Home, Coldwater. A Rosary service will be held on Monday, Jan. 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
Survivors include his parents, Lalo and Karen Carrion, of Quincy; brother Jesse Lee Carrion, also of Quincy; paternal grandparents Lalo and Sylvia Carrion, Sr., of Coldwater; maternal grandparents, Les and Gay Fraser, of Moscow; maternal grandparents, John and Pat Lincoln, of Eloy, Ariz.; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and very special friends William Heffner, and Jeni Bedzyk.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the family or Michigan State Police Explorers program.
Lalo was not only a friend to his friends, he was a fan of his friends and he will be missed through out the community and especially in the Heffner house.
My son William is a senior at Quincy High School and Lalo was an inspiration to Willy. Lalo was his best friend, but more like a brother.

This is heartbreaking, but it is not the end for James or for us who truly believe. Beautiful, powerful tribute to a young man who left this world too soon; but he is with Jesus, and for him, pain is at an end! Well done!
