Oh, Father, to You what do I owe
for tears You shed and warnings of woe?
What can I eagerly pay
for the price You paid that day?
"Your love, nothing more my child,"
and You looked down upon me with a smile.

Oh, Father, how can You know of my love
from such a lofty throne above?
What can I anxiously do
to prove my heart worthy and true ?
"Love others, nothing more my child,"
and You looked down upon me with a smile.

But, Father, how do I love You and others,
and call my enemies my brothers?
What can I perpetually do
to show myself and love to You?
"Obey all my laws, nothing more my child,"
and You looked down upon me with a smile.

Oh, Father, You ask so little of me,
yet, You set my soul free.
I ask of You so very much,
and You give it with such a gentle touch.
You were there even when I was a wayward child.
Still, You look down upon me with a smile.
