I was seated there in first class
A section where I rarely flew
When a lady sat down across from me
Her eyes a sparkling blue.
Her legs were long and curvy
Her lips were full and pouty
Her skin tight dress showed one and all
Her belly button was an “outy.”
The birdies started chirpin’
A volcano blew its top
Orchestral strings began to sing
My heart came to a stop.
She looked straight into my eyes
With a knowing kind of look
Then reached into her purse
And retrieved a well-worn book.
She tilted her seat back slightly
Then held the book so I could see
The title that had her interest was
From Here to Eternity.
“How apropos” thought I
While glancing at her parted knees
I had a view of the same panorama
And mine was easier to please.
Then suddenly my heart rate quickened
The printed words were clear
“For Mile High Club Members Only”
I almost gave a cheer.
Instead I nodded my approval
“Nice club” I heard myself say
“Oh, I love it to death” she replied
“It gets better every day.”
“We have frolicking good times
And we share all our intimate joys
It’s great fun for the girls
And very satisfying for the boys.”
“Want to sponsor a new member?”
I asked with great anticipation
“Why of course, “ said she
“I’ll take your application.”
“You mean you grade performance?
Can’t we just agree ‘sender to sender’?”
“Sorry,” said she, “but the Mile High Book Club
Is the best reading room in Denver.”
Man, what a let down! Beautifully crafted poem though. Filled with intrigue and anticipation. You're becoming quite a poet if I must say so.
Reminds me of the scene in one of my novels of an initiation (James Bond style) into the Mach 2.5 club. Alas, we can't do that anymore on a simple New York to London flight. To be resourceful, we have to spend $zillions to hitch a ride on one of Virgin's flights into near space… And then, there may not be room to do the deed.
Shanghai Escapist grabs the faint-of-heart right from the get-go and serves up an ultimatum: What would you do if caught in the same circumstances? From the opening scene, the reader is tossed into the maze of daily intrigue as it existed in 1960s-70
