When choice becomes cause
and cause has its effect
and love becomes lost
in cosmic neglect--
Who is to say that we
are not our best friend
or the deadliest foe
we would rather suspend?
When we speak about truth
and live in our lies
why should we expect
that our deeds will reap less
than their deceptive size?
We can shrug off our sorrows
and cast off our woes
turn our backs on tomorrow
and those they enclose.
But when in the end
our acts that enslave
return to engulf us
the same as we gave--
How can there be joy
as we lay in repose
who will speak of our life
with beautiful prose?
It's the age old refrain
when the harvest comes in
we reap what we sow
again and again.
Skillfully written, astutely observed, Those first two lines in stanza one are great even on their own: "Wehn choice becomes cause/and cause has its effect/" . . . concisely profound. ~~ Diana

Loved it! We reap what we sow. It's always a good moral because it never fails.
I truly believe in Karma...and this could be seen as an extra incentive for 'good behaviour' in this life...As we get older I find it the less tiring option too!

Excellent! That line, 'love becomes lost in cosmic neglect', suggests to me the freedom our Deist Founders must have felt when they realized that it was We The People, not the god of bubbling universes, who bore responsibility for seeing that love does not become lost, that our world is an instrument for the Common Good. Thanks, Edward. You've left much for others to speak of with beautiful prose. May there be much, much more.
loved your view on karma, great thoughts, but I wonder how like they say in Hinduism and Buddhism; It is the effects of a person's actions that determine his destiny in his next incarnation!
And I have seen in life when some people go through severe issues which cannot be explained ,they simply bring in the philosophy of many lives and reincarnation.Also when a person is doing very well without putting in any efforts as such then also that credit goes to his past life!!!
Karma is a universal law that none can escape. There is no time limit either. People who truly make mistakes theirs consequences may not be as severe. But for those who willfully murder another human either by purposefully Medical neglect and get away because they are protected by government immunity, they aren't protected from KARMA. Those who get away with murder because legal loop holes. They can't escape KARMA. Sometimes it comes back around a hundred fold. No one can escape the universal laws.
...tragic element of being human...I guess...

I try not transgress into "an easy theory" on karma.
But there is...a hope.
Can't find right words to illuminate it...but there
are words of one of my favorite contemporary writer:
..."the life I touch for good or ill will touch another
life, and that in turn another, until who knows where
the trembling stops or in what far place my touch
will be felt, our lives are link together. No man

Well said. I truly believe that those who seek to abuse will have it heaped upon them before they leave this earth. It has already happened to several who have sought to abuse me although I did not wish it to happen to them.

Karma is a bitch when it bites back. In life we reap what we sow. Always treat others as how you would want others to treat you, and never wish bad things upon others, for the wish may boomerang and bounce back upon yourself. I've seen this happened too many times already happened to people I know. Just be good to others no matter how they treat you. DO NOT wish any bad things upon others!!
