Problems with reality.

Illusions

Seeing is believing they say
But is it?
Seeing confirms consciousness
But so does hearing
And touching, smelling, tasting.
Block one and only consciousness changes.
Still our minds cannot sense cosmic rays
Or x-rays, or other invisible light
Might these supersede our sensory data
All of which require a conscious brain
To gather and assimilate into
Linguistic format for communication?
Where does dark matter or dark energy
Fit into our scheme of reality?
And then there are those 7 or 8
Other dimensions
That are theoretical constructs
Supported by mathematics
Perhaps only a millimeter away
From our noses.
Is it possible that what consciousness surmises
Is not real at all
Rather mere glimpses of what
Exists in a permanent form and in a place
Beyond our limited ability to grasp?
Or might it be just an illusion that allows us
To retain our sanity until
We reach our limitations and
Destroy our ethereal selves that were always
Mere fiction, figments of imagination
That never were…

My own little world,
is my reality.
My delusions and illusions,
set me free.

Reality lives and is defined by every soul in their own way. Your description is brilliant!

...implicitly assuming that the dreams are...external reality cues....according to my cookery-book...that mystifies even the cupboard...

I love the take on other dimensions. Sometimes I wonder if the life we are living is merely an illusion or a dream we are having in another dimension. Oh, sanity?????? What is it?????

Love ya!

I really liked this one. I'm a big fan of science and Hawking's BHoT. It made perfect sense to me, even though a more elegant theory may arise in the future. I'm fascinated by other dimensions and if we are the play toys of sophisticated extra-terrestrial life because we live within a tiny universe surrounded and dwelling within the scopes of a much larger universe we cannot yet detect. Dark matter and energy: I'm a big fan. As for whether there is enough mass with these realities to make the acceleration stop and gravity draw it all back to the infinitesimally tiny point prior to a next big bang. Better than the universe cooling and dying via entropy. Multiple dimensions, I wish I could study that, but my brain finds reading anything over a couple of pages very difficult. I think there were about 9-13 dimensions after the BB and we only got 4. I want to experience the others because I'm curious as to if my brain would be able to process the changes. I think all that we sense everyday is an overlapping of other disparate universes and we will learn to travel between them at some point in the future. Dwell on all of the branching timelines that happened with each choice and you have eternity. Like if I died or didn't die on a crucial moment one or billions of me take a new branch off the main course where I am always alive in many branches and my consciousness only allows me to go on without even noticing it.

Anyways, your musings reminded me of all these thoughts and our senses that may eventually bring us to the truth.

You are awesome! Best, Danae

Your poem makes quite a revelation of our limited niche in the universe. But it also reveals that as thinking beings, we have begun to peel back the layers of limitation (ignorance) that have blocked our vision, and still block many, with the power of mathematics, science, and engineering to reveal new worlds as part of our universe of ever-growing knowledge. It is a much firmer place we stand as a result, than that fearful, violent place leaving Eden.

One of mans effectiveness' is being able to invent what allows the invisible to become tangible. I remember as a boy having a most wide-eyed relationship with radio waves and a little transistor radio. Today its Wi-Fi and a Kindle Fire. Haha. In only thirty seconds I downloaded the entire Jules Verne oeuvre. Erroneous mental representations, I think, plague us all. And being deceived by those who create illusory ideas is pandemic on this planet. Enjoyed your cerebrations. Peace...
