Dementia and other mental issues of growing older.

Poem Artwork

Demons in the Distance

As I enter that stage of life
Where images and words converge
Into streams of incoherent consciousness
My recourse is to disconnect from them
And reconnect to old patterns
That gave me respite and rejuvenation
As the songwriter said
Of the way we were…
Memories.
Not to be relived
But to bring a new focus
And to ward off
Tentacles of diversion
Mantras of madness
Into a darkness where
Angels fear to tread.
I cannot control the tide
Of what is or what will be
Still, I dare not give in to those
Demons in the distance.

Even from afar, they're able to perpetrate.
Intelligent poem. Modernity's madness is a blighter of a beast.

I try to keep them all away. Demons can either control your life or you learn to control them.

Thank doG. For thinkers with consciousness still in tack, what your poem speaks of is truly the enemy, a succubus/incubus in 21st century lambs clothing, a threat to constructive growth beyond imagination a mere decade ago.

Patterns can be positive. Don't give into demons.

With your coherent writing, I see no sign of distant demons. Some people have them in spades and some people, like you, if you have them, don't show any signs.

One way or the other demons can be exorcised! Take heart! Keep writing!

Sometimes you don't have to give in to those "Demons in the distance," they are sneaky in the way they infiltrate your thoughts.
