A LOVE LETTER
When alongside other mail in the box, it looked like any other letter,
But when I saw the handwriting, I knew this one was so much better.
In my trembling hands, I held correspondence; I was most anxious to read
All the precious words you’d written; I was eager to open with all speed.
But before I did, I held the envelope, gently rubbing it against my face,
Hoping to someway feel your wonderful essence, a lingering trace.
Overflowing with excitement, my heart was filled with joy and hope,
And in a caring and gentle way, I slowly opened the thin blue envelope.
As I unfolded the matching paper, tears crept from the corners of my eyes,
But amidst tears I found myself smiling and emitting tender, loving sighs.
All the words you had written reaffirmed what you have always said:
You love me completely, from the tip of my toes to the very top of my head.
From your beautiful mind to your pen onto the paper were the words you wrote,
Imparting a feeling of flight and that of a soft cloud upon which I could float.
Your words expressed your love with moving imagery and passionate phrases,
Clearly describing our tender kisses, adoring touches and long, loving gazes.
I read your words over and over again, committed every one to my memory,
And then slipped it back in the envelope, tying a red ribbon around it loosely.
Carefully, I tucked it away in a secure location where only I would know
The secret place of the love letter written to me, the one tied up with a bow.
Sweetly done.
