“I like a bit of mongrel myself,
Whether it’s a man or a dog,
They’re best for every day.”
George Bernard Shaw
Almost every dog that I’ve rescued, or have had the privilege to know, has been a mixed breed – a mutt or a mongrel.
And they are each truly unique, and each one of them truly has tons of heart and soul. I’ve met big ones and small ones, and taken in mutts and mongrels ranging in size from tiny terriers to massive mastiffs. And they have all been wonderful companions and extremely loyal friends.
The latest addition to our home is Little Jack, a tiny mixed breed mutt with the heart and the soul of a lion. And he’s quite comical and extremely intelligent, too.
Yet, millions of these remarkable and loving mixed breed dogs are euthanized in America, each and every year, because no one wants them, and they cannot find a home.
And like many devoted Mutt Fans all across America, I sincerely hope President Elect Obama selects a Mutt from a Shelter to be ‘First Pet,’ not an expensive Pure Breed from a Pet Store.
One of my favorite animal rescue organizations – The North Shore Animal League of America – has produced a very cute video on the many merits of mutts, and why our President Elect should bring a Mutt into the White House. They’ve even produced a petition letter requesting him to do so.
And they have a wonderful Mutt-I-Gree Montage on the linked website below, featuring pictures of many marvelous mutts.
So if you’re a Mutt Fan like I am, please visit the website linked below, watch the video and the montage, and sign the letter.
Mutts and Mongrels all over America will thank you for it.
And if you’re looking for a new best friend, please visit an animal shelter near your home.
And I am also thinking pawsitively!
