Garden of Gethsemane Lesson.....

John 14:13-19 (KJV)

The moment when Jesus told the disciples to "watch and pray" is one of my favorites.  A lesson, an important and vital message is in this for us all.  They may not have realized the importance of their watchfulness, as we see people today also not realizing how important it is to watch.  But, their "un" watchfulness can be a lesson unto us.  Jesus told them to watch and pray in order to withstand temptation.  Throughout the life of Christ on earth, He showed to them as well as to us, that we are to spend much time in prayer, as He did with His Father.  This was His source of strength and it came from His Father.

...as "the Son of man", Jesus prayed to The Father, in showing that our human nature needs and requires every drop, every inch of divine support we can receive, and we receive this through prayer.  This is what prepares us for our coming trials.  Many like to claim that Jesus had power and somehow it eased Him.  This is not so.  Jesus was a man, even as we are, and He shows to us that we are to have total dependence upon God.  That is what it is about.  We read where Jesus was always waking early or even staying all night, out alone away from others, and this was time spent with His Father, His Supplier.

As Jesus was about to face His own trial, we see that He drew His strength from His Father. There’s no better place to see this than the Garden of Gethsemane only moments before He was taken by the soldiers. Three times He returned to pray alone while He asked the disciples to wait and stay awake. He had instructed them to pray, not for Him; but for themselves. We see them fall asleep instead, not being able to keep their eyes open. Three times He returned to wake them, and three times He prayed alone. It was God, the Father that gave Jesus His strength to get through His trials that were set before Him. This is how we know that we too are supposed to go to God in prayer for all things, and this is whetre we gain our strength.

Read John 14:13-19 “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father will be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it. If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, nor knoweth him: but ye know him, for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.. I will not leave you comfortless. I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me; because I live, ye shall live also.” (KJV)

In the above scripture, can you hear the pleading God of the Universe as He calls out to “Come, learn of Me?” As Jesus prayed and put all His trust in His Father, we too can put our trust in God, through Jesus Christ. The two are one, and we cannot have one without the other. You too can know Him today and because you can know Him today, you can receive a love you have never found here among any people. Can someone here save you from your own self as it spirals out of control? Can someone here feed you what your soul is yearning for as food. Jesus is the Bread of Life, and we are to eat of that food. We may read The Word and receive the Bread. For a beautiful study of Jesus and who He really is, open the book of John. Let your true heart yearn for the Truth. Go to Him in prayer, asking Him to open your eyes and ears and for Him to show you all the mysteries He has waiting for you. Seek and ye shall find, Jesus says. Knock and the door shall be opened unto you … for there is no one else but Christ Jesus that truly knows of our pains. He suffered every pain in His trials on earth…so that …He could be our Lord and Savior.
