The article was a bit of smoke and mirrors. Attitudes are hard to change. Attitudes color everything we think about. You are right about little nudges that might cause us to change, but they were tender come from the outside. Like little facts that eventually become overwhelming reality (information on global warming is a good example) and end up unable to be denied. Or a major drastic change like being suddenly immersed among people and their culture that we might hate, only to find out that they are nothing like we thought they were.
No amount of self-analysis In front of the mirror can do that.
