Members of the so-called "superior northern European culture that makes America great" are on familiar ground when reconsidering the roots of fascism. We recall that Italian Fascists and German national socialists among other right-wing authoritarian groups advanced a revolution against both communism and liberalism. Prussian militarists, historians, and theologians scorned gross materialism, whether matter was to be collectively or privately held. It was certainly politic for them put matter down, for they intended to creatively destroy a great deal of it during the construction of their awesome totalitarian dystopia. Of course the repudiation was ambiguous, for barbarians old and new have always loved bodily booty as much as manly virtue - construe d as brutish bravery instead of ethical courage. Many national socialists or incipient Nazis embraced Haeckel's evolutionary spiritualism, but his horrid doctrine was really a materialistic monism.

As puritanical religion knows very well, the pursuit of bodily pleasure, especially sexual pleasure, is difficult to restrain. Making love at home tends to subvert the inclination to make war abroad. Chastity is necessary for efficient killing: sexual energy is pent up to be furiously unleashed on the enemy - of course the prospect of raping vanquished women may serve as an incentive to kill their men. In any case, sodomy among the Germanic ranks must not be tolerated, therefore never mind the successful Spartan abomination. The purpose of sexual intercourse is to produce strong soldiers whose racial purity distinguishes them in battle. Strictly heterosexual relations must be monogamous; but certain discreet exceptions might be overlooked on a case by case basis - or not - Hitler applied his arbitrary genius to the issue in the Third Reich.

Right-wing authoritarians, loosely defined in the Oxford Dictionary as ‘fascists’, have always been obsessed with homosexuality and sodomy, and even the more so when the spiritual conflict erupts in war. The Second Reich was wracked by homosexual scandals just prior to the Great War. The chief scandal-monger claimed that he was personally tolerant of gays, but not in the military! Gays in military were wishy-washy pansies who would tend to cower like women before the enemies encircling Germany. Gays were uncovered at the highest rank; some were too close for comfort to Kaiser Wilhelm II, the Prince of Peace and Supreme Warlord. He was probably never an active homosexual, but he enjoyed seeing a stout general friend of his dancing in a tutu, and his closest friend and political confidant was allegedly gay. In any case, feminine whispering in his ear was bound to soften the militant demeanor. Of course the Prince of Peace and Supreme Warlord had two ears, but he was unbalanced by a horrendous birth trauma: he was wrenched out of the womb and left unattended with a twisted neck on a blanket on the floor, where he nearly suffocated while those present struggled to save his liberal mother, "that Englishwoman," Queen Victoria's daughter. The screaming eagles eventually got the best of William's loving doves; millions of people perished in two massive episodes of mutual mass murder over spiritual and material principles. And that was quite all right as far as the 'fascists' were concerned; for might makes right, and the mightier in body and in cunning intellect who win are of course more moral or manly. We quote a witness for the argument that war is the father of all good things:

"Since 1795, when Immanuel Kant published in his old age his treatise on Perpetual Peace, many have considered it an established fact that war is the destruction of all good and the origin of all evil. In spite of all that history teaches, no conviction is felt that the struggle between nations is inevitable, and the growth of civilization is credited with a power to which war must yield. But, undisturbed by such human theories and the change of times, war has again and again marched from country to country with the clash of arms, and has proved its destructive as well as creative and purifying power. It has not succeeded in teaching mankind what its real nature is. Long periods of war, far from convincing men of the necessity of war, have, on the contrary, always revived the wish to exclude war, where possible, from the political intercourse of nations. This wish and this hope are widely disseminated even today. The maintenance of peace is lauded as the only goal at which statesmanship should aim. This unqualified desire for peace has obtained in our days a quite peculiar power over men's spirits. This aspiration finds its public expression in peace leagues and peace congresses... This aspiration is directly antagonistic to the great universal laws which rule all life. War is a biological necessity of the first importance, a regulative element in the life of mankind which cannot be dispensed with, since without it an unhealthy development will follow, which excludes every advancement of the race, and therefore all real civilization. 'War is the father of all things.' (Heraclitus) The sages of antiquity long before Darwin recognized this.The struggle for existence is, in the life of Nature, the basis of all healthy development. All existing things show themselves to be the result of contesting forces. So in the life of man the struggle is not merely the destructive, but the life-giving principle." We find nothing new in the modernity above providing that we harken back to the good old natural days - before civilization worked its ruin. We must be a little patient here, for we are briefly dealing with the origin of the "superior northern European culture" which dominated the world in order to save it. We know the story: the barbarians swept down from the north - barbarians are almost always from the north - they made mincemeat of the southern regime, then impregnated it during a long dark age, and a new hardier hybrid strain arose to go forth and multiply and to eventually create an empire of which no greater can be thought, led by the sole superpower upon which an attack is an attack on civilization per se. All right, then, the Pure Land is in the Northwest where it should be, but beware of parts East, where the longest enduring empire first arose with the Sun.

Of the origin of the Germanic race we can be certain: the fire melted the ice in the abyss and it gave issuance to Ymir, the primeval being who engendered a brood of frost-giants from the sweat under his arm. The cow who feeds Ymir from her udders begat Buri when she licked a salt block. Buri begat Borr; and with Bestla, daughter of Evil Thorn, Borr begat three sons, who in turn killed the gigantic Ymir, whose blood drowned all but one of the giant frost kings, Belgirmir, who mysterious escaped with his family to continue his race.

The Earth is created from the parts of Ymir's corpse. A central place for mankind was fenced off by his eyebrows; the giants have a place on the far shore somewhere. Eons later, Hitler was fascinated by the frost giants, whom he recognized as the Nordic progenitors of the Aryan super race. One Hans Horbiger, whose moon theory is still well regarded by some scientists, was working in a foundry; one day he poured some molten metal on the snow outside: Eureka! he derived from the reaction of hot and cold the famous Fire and Ice Theory that would become Germany's official fundamental scientific theory. It dovetailed of course with the frost-giant myth. Germany's scientists were forced to sign on to the theory or get out of Texas. Hitler took it so seriously that he interrupted the launching of rockets for fear that fiery rocket exaust would disturb the ice crystals in space and thereby wreck the cosmic balance.

As for the origin of man, Tacitus, in his Germania, advises that, "In the ancient songs, which are their only form of record and are a kind of chronicle, the celebrate Tuisto, an earth-born god. To him they attribute a son, Mannus, the forefahter and founder of the people, and to Mannus three sons...."

Mannus reminds us of the Indic ancestor of man, Manu. The word 'man' is derived from 'ma', that which is 'drawn out', like matter, for instance, or man from his mater's womb; and from man thoughts are drawn out. Manu, in other words, is 'he who thinks.' To wit: man. The giant Ymir is of course similar to the Indic Yama (Av, Yima, 'twin') who had incestuous relations with his sister. Furthermore, Tuisto, born of earth, is associated with "two", and denotes a bisexual being. Tacitus informs us that the Germanic tribes were named after Tuisto's sons and grandsons, and states, "The name 'Germania' is said to be a new and recent application: it was because the ones who first crossed the Rhine and expelled the Gauls and are now called Tungri, were called Germani at the time." Tacitus is probably mistaken about that; it was the Romans who called the tribes Germans, and the Germans did not take on a national name until the Middle Ages: diutisc, later Deutsch - in reference to their language.

However that may be, we are speaking of so-called Germanic people;, we find some of them everywhere. Mind you that the most dominant groups of Germans today are the Anglo-Saxons and Anglo-Americans, who were, incidentally, quite recently irritated when the Old Saxons of Europe, heeding the hard lessons of two world wars, refused to join a race to pre-emptive war on Iraq - the Bush War on Iraq II.

Now the leading culture of the Anglo-Americans has been the white, Anglo-Saxon Protestant, or WASP culture. Thomas Jefferson, perhaps the greatest founding father of the United States, believed that the pagan Anglo-Saxon virtues were at the root of the common liberties embodied in the English constitution. In a famous letter to Major Cartwright, Jefferson admired the Anglo-Saxons as a barbarous model and joyfully declared that the superior English common law is not Christian law, as bigoted judges were wont to declare it to be. Wherefore we are given reason to suspect that Americans, notwithstanding Christianity and its Romantic aspect, might be even more familiar with fascism than they suppose. Fascism is, figuratively speaking, a family affair.
