Gene appeared in 93 feature films. Some of his best known movies are based on his hit records, including South of the Border (1939), Mexicali Rose (1939), Back in the Saddle (1941), The Last Round-Up (1947) and Strawberry Roan (1948).

Western movie fans and film historians have credited Gene Autry with setting the precedent for the popularity of the Western on television.

Lesbian Western fans say The Sundance Wives have made History and have credited Sage Sweetwater with setting the precedent for the popularity of the lesbian Western on the Big Screen, out of the past into the present. Like Gene, The Sundance Wives know how important it is to connect with their fans.

To be able to bring back that Autry era and the time way, way before that in the Leadville, Colorado Silver Boom of 1879 and the Cripple Creek, Colorado 1897 Gold Rush is a dream come true for The Sundance Wives. To know that Wyatt Earp, Virgil Earp and Bat Masterson were in Cripple Creek, Colorado is what inspired Celebrity Firebrand Lesbian Novelist Sage Sweetwater to write these historical characters in her script, and Doc Holliday, Mart Duggan and Horace Tabor in Leadville, Colorado for historical accuracy. Sweetwater's film script Jett Durango with Director Wendy Crouse includes the historical characters of Calamity Jane, Wild Bill Hickok, Buffalo Bill and Annie Oakley.
