When you move into a new neighborhood, it’s always best to let the neighbors know what type of person you are. Assert yourself. Stake your claim. You are part of the neighborhood now, and they have to respect you.
The best way to rise above mediocrity is to dazzle the neighbors with day lilies. Choose the biggest and brightest. Plant them in the fall when no one suspects anything. With a small trowel in your hands, you can easily lift the soil along your fence or lawn border and tuck them in for the winter.
In spring, your “Asiatic lilies” will rise like tall, green towers, to stand proudly, lifting their bright orange, pink or maroon faces up for everyone to see. Some are such “show-offs,” they will produce several flowers per stalk. And don’t worry, they won’t embarrass you or let you down. They are drought tolerant, and can endure harsh winters. Your neighbors will think you are a great gardener. Your reputation is now established—all thanks to your day lilies!
