How to avoid starvation when stuck at the keyboard.
The computer allows us to perform so many tasks that many people don’t leave it long enough to eat dinner. Many folks eat two meals a day at the keyboard. The most practical foods to eat while at the keyboard are those that can be grabbed by the “digits.” To get balanced nutrition eat the following finger foods.
Bring together the items listed below. Wash and cut veggies into small pieces. Store in plastic containers or bags. Keep them in the refridgerator. When you finally realize that you are starving, but too hungry to cook, you can revive yourself with something healthy.
- Protein: Chunks of cheese, cold chicken, beef or ham. If these are too greasy, try nuts: pecans, walnuts, cashews and almonds.
- Vegetables: Raw vegetables pre-cut from the grocery or cut yourself. Try broccoli florets, baby carrots, slivers of red, green and yellow peppers, small tomatoes, slices of turnip or small radishes. Keep a small bowl of dip or sauce handy to add to the flavor.
- Fruits: Grapes are my favorite. You can grab them and pop them into your mouth without the juice dripping all over the keyboard. Also good are pre-cut chunks of apple, banana or blue berries that you can pop into your mouth. Frozen blue berries are better than ice pops in summer.
- Breads: Whole grain crackers, pretzels or dry cereals to munch from your hand give you a grain to match those other goodies you’ve prepared. There are even many low-salt these days and some have extra fiber.
- Drinks: Herbal teas, fruit juices, soymilk. Drink coffee or strong tea only once or twice a day. My favorite for hot weather is a mint tea bag in a tall glass of water. Let it “brew” cold and sip. It’s quite refreshing!
Now you can have your internet addiction and good nutrition too. The next thing we have to conquer together is EXERCISE. That’s a tough one!
