If you are looking for a great spy thriller, try this one: The Crash of Flight 3804 (corrected) by Charlotte Dennett, publisher Chelsea Green Books, Vermont. (Yes, available at your favorite book vender.) The simple story is: Dennett is trying to find out why and how her father died. He was in the diplomatic corp. That indicates some intrigue right there. Dennett builds the plot. It has something to do with pipelines, the grab for power and the making of huge profits.
As you read, the possibilities boggle the mind. It’s set in the Middle East. Start time: 1947. The author finds out that her father’s death was the result of being the American Super Spy! But who had him bumped off? And why? What were the circumstances? The plot twists and turns with new information coming in each chapter. Keep your Google search handy. Look back through your old encyclopedia. Get out that old history book you kept—just in case! Now’s the moment to use them to review WWII. The fact is, this murder mystery is based on real political conflict and real power clashes.
Many times during the reading of this book you may cry out for a life-line, a compass or some means of getting your bearings. Left or Right? Good or Bad? For it or against it? Where do you stand? This murder mystery has you wondering. Was it the result of a collapsing empire? Or was it the rise of a great nation taking over to do great things? Give it a read and let me know. I have a notion of my own, but I’d like to know yours!
I have read A Reluctant Spy by AD's Miller Caldwell. The tale of his great aunt's role as a double spy for the Nazis (who she sabotaged) and England during World War II. He had to fictionalize part of the story because no one could tell him what she did or even how she did what she did. The secret stuff that spying is.
Always wondered why the word pronounced, "core," was spelled corps. And now I know why if you join one of those organizations with all of its glory, the glory was in becoming a corpse. The source of "esprit de corps?"
You had the flight number backwards, 3408 instead of 3804. So when I search I found this wonderful YouTube interview of Charlotte Dennett.
