So how does MAYBE I DO, a 2023 rom-com directed and written by Michael Jacobs, live up to those films? Let’s take a quick look.
One delightful sequence between William Macy and Diane Keaton’s characters oozes with JOY after they meet unexpectedly and take a walk together. They are both married to spouses who don’t seem PASSIONATE about them any longer. INTEGRITY comes through in the tone of their conversation. Keaton’s character first sees Macy’s character crying alone while watching a movie. She then tries to console him. But IDEALISM doesn’t enter the story yet.
However, Susan Sarandon and Richard Gere’s characters have been unfaithful to their spouses for a long time. But Sarandon’s character isn’t satisfied. She has an IDEALISTIC view about what their relationship should be like and gets quite funny ranting about her feelings. .
The story comes together when we find out Sarandon is married to William Macy and Keaton happens to be Gere’s wife. To top it all, their adult children, played by Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey, are planning to be married. When the youngsters find out the truth, what will they do? And what changes will this situation bring to them and their parents?
