Dunfermline-based band, Dirty Summer, describe their music as ‘car crash pop’.
And preparing for their upcoming Tigerfest gig, they shared some of their inspirations behind the music that has got them where they are today.
Fergus Christie Jack (keys, vocals) said: “I guess car crashes influence us in some way; we are certainly inclined to a bit of ‘Cops With Cameras’ from time to time.
“Mostly noises influence us too, white, pink, brown especially...”
Dirty Summer consists of Brodie A L Wishart (bass/vocals), Fergus Christie Jack and Emily Banister (percussion/vocals).
Since meeting at their school orchestra, the three sixteen-year-olds have been ‘Dirty Summer’ since Halloween 2006, so they are not exactly a new band but with fresh, raw songs such as ‘Knees’, ‘Friday Night at the JJB Sports’ and ‘War is Bad, Bono is Great’ it’s not hard to see they why they hit a nerve within the Fife music scene.
The trio have already found themselves supporting acts such as Bis and Dan Deacon.
Fergus said: “We're looking forward to Tigerfest as it's our first show back in Dunfermline this year.
“We've mostly been occupied with gigs in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
“We're also big fans of the other two bands we're playing with too.
“I got the Twilight Sad's album for Christmas and I've listened to it a lot since, similarly for Frightened Rabbit and their latest release.
“So of course when we found out we were playing with them both, we were pretty chuffed.
“We've also probably been between us to all the Dunfermline Tigerfest nights so far, so it'll be extra lovely to play one ourselves.”
The band’s debut single "Mess With Me You Mess With The Bay" will be out later in the year on Edinburgh record label Golden Eagle Recordings, and a free E.P. is available as a download from http://winningspermparty.co.uk/dirtysummer.
