Cats love shiny things so make sure the garland and tinsel are kept high enough they can't reach them. Dogs will eat just about anything so watch out for small toys or ornaments that are left on the floor. watch them. Holiday food is not necessarily a treat for our pets. Chocolate especially should be kept away from dogs, but even gravy, spicy foods, alcoholic drinks and turkey bones are not good for them.

One of the things we don't think of is snow globes  which are filled with antifreeze which could kill them so if one breaks clean it up and keep the pet out of the room while cleaning. Candles also are a hazard if the pet knocks them over while it is burning and your rug catches fire. Also cat tails wafting through the candle fire can catch fire and it definitely smells like burned cat hair for awhile after you put it out. I can attest to this first hand. Also that potpourri that makex the house smell like the holiday season can be hazardous to their health. Especially the oil that you burn with those fragrance sticks, is a red flag as this can kill them.

So the best advice is to be aware of the hazards and if you have house guests, make sure you keep your pets in a secure location so they don't get out of the house. If they are prone to stress with strangers, keep them in the bedroom during your event. We all want to have our pets enjoy the season so its your responsibility to see that the holidays don't include a trip to the vet.
