Marguerite pregnant with triplets, loses one but luckily carries two other babies to full term--Until.

Paul was having another good spell. Even helping Marguerite with the twins especially little Bobby, the weakest of the two really concerned them. The little girl Marion was robust and full of life, completely the opposite of her frail brother. Just one look into his wife's weary eyes Paul could see the exhaustion and torment she was going through trying desperately to keep the precious little boy alive. "Marguerite honey, you have to get some sleep, or you will be no good to either of the babies." Knowing Marguerite was afraid to go to sleep, afraid that if she did the baby boy would die.

She had to stay awake so he would want to live.No sooner would she put him down when the other baby would need her feeding. Bobby kept getting weaker and weaker. Putting her hand on his frail little body, found he was still burning up. "I keep sponging you down my little darling but nothing seems to help, what am I going to do, dear God help me please." In the middle of the night Bobby woke her up he was so sick, Marguerite became frantic and woke up her husband. "Paul call the doctor hurry, please hurry. The baby is very sick, tell him we need him here right away." Not knowing what to do to make Bobby better scared her.

The doctor arrived and taking the boy from his mother's arms placed him on the table to examine him. Marguerite begged "please doctor help him." As Paul tried to comfort her while the doctor checked over Bobby. Looking at the child's parents. "His fever is 105%,and his heart rate is very weak. Though I don't see any signs of a cold or flu. It's probably in the beginning stages. I am going to give you medication to help bring the fever down, I want you to continue the sponge baths though. Now this will help bring the heart rate back to normal as well." The medicine did help calm him down.

But he continued to get weaker. When breast fed he wasn't drinking much and always crying. For several months the doctor was being called in repeatedly. Paul concern for the sick baby and his frailing wife stated to wane. He was getting tired of the stress at home and couldn't handle the situation any longer, he had taken as much as he could take. "I can't handle this much more Marguerite, you have no time for me, its as if I'm not even in the same house with you. All you care about is your precious babies. Well I'm out of here." Going out anywhere away from home became a priority for him, and the beer tasted better then listening to a squaking baby and a wife that had no time for him. Giving him damn good reason not to be home much."Paul they are just babies, you should be able to understand, they are your babies too. And yes, Bobby is very, very sick, don't you understand I am afraid for his life."

Paul didn't want to hear her or understand, he got up and left her alone. When Bobby did sleep his mommy would doze with him. But that was for very short periods. Her sister Joannie stayed with her for a couple of months to help with little Marion and the other children, thankfully. "What would I do without you sis, you are a blessing to have around."Joannie bent down and kissed her older sister and Bobby on the forehead. Knowing how tired her sister was and how desperately she was trying to save her little son. Finally Marguerite's body couldn't function any longer causing her to collapsed from exhaustion and malnutrition. The doctor hooked her up to an I.V. then gave Joannie something to help her sister sleep. This time she had no choice but to surrender to blissful sleep.

While getting the much needed sleep she needed, Marguerite woke up to find her little son's condition had worsen."I should not have taken those pills. I shouldn't have left him. He would be better now, I know he would." Taking him in her arms "you're safe now my darling, mommy is here with you now" rocking him back and forth. "Where is my little girl? I want her here in my arms beside her brother. They need each other now." After several days of staying awake watching Bobby's condition worsening there was a miraclous change, little Bobby started getting stronger. The color returning to his tiny body and over the day ahead he put on much needed weight. But sadly his twin sister, Marion seemed to have switched places with him, her health started to fail drastically. It was bizarre and frightening. As if a reverse roll had taken place. The baby girl began losing weight and again the doctor could not explain why, "this is nothing like I have ever seen before." Shaking his head confused, not believing but still wondering the possibliity, "it's as if she were giving her life so that her brother would live."

"Please God why can't I keep both my babies? Why?" Sobbing in her sisters arms. A couple of days later little Marion passed away. Paul stood alone at the casket while Bernard stood holding his mother's hand with Gertie and Phil by her side. It was a very sad day when the baby girl's small white coffin was put into the cold, cold ground. She would never be forgotten. Her beautiful smile and the smell of her soft brown hair. The tiny fingers intertwining and holding on to her mommy's. Yes she would be missed.
