A time to reflect and love those who are really important to you.

Hey what up family, I'm sitting at my desk this morning and I'm thinking about folks that mean so much to me. In particular I'm thinking about my best friend. My best friend left this life in August of last year. She left us five days before Katrina. Man this was the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with. I've had family and family friends to pass but they had lived long good lives. I don't want to sound harsh, that’s truly not my intention. So please for give me if I come off that way.
My friend was 36 when the Lord called her home. I don't understand why she had to leave so soon, but I learned not to question the actions of the Lord. So maybe this was not for me to understand at this time, or maybe I'll never understand. Neky, my friend’s name, had been my girl since elementary school; we were tighter than a cat suit. She was my ace in the hole and I miss her.
I think about her a lot and not being able to talk to her, you know I still have her number on voice dial in my cell, and every so often I get the urge to call her, just to see if her voice mail would still pick up. I know some of y’all might be saying "this sista is CRAZY or something". I'm not one to fuss, so you got that, but don't let me hear 'ya.
It darned on me this morning that it's coming on up on a year for the lost of Neky and that stinky Ho Katrina. I like everyone else has lost so much in the last two plus years that I've learned to value other things. I always valued my family, but didn't tell them how much I loved them and how much they mean to me. My kids think I'm going mad, they hear "I love you" so darn much, they think something is wrong with me. I have a few friends, never had many, but if I don't hear from them daily, I go crazy. So I call just to say good morning or good night, you don't have to talk to me for long I just need to hear your voice and know that you’re ok.
So I guess what I'm trying to say, let your family and your friends know that you love them and they mean the world to you. I never got to tell Neky that I loved her and her friendship means the world to me. My last conversation with her took place at about 2am on the morning she died. She went to hear some spoken word the night before and I couldn't go with her. I had just started classes to work on my masters in social work, and was dead tired from working all day and spending 3 hours in class that night. I had no idea that this would be our last conversation. So to all my friends here, thank you for being a part of my life, even if we're just cyber buddies. Thank you. To my family (spoken word family included), I love you and thanks for all you do, will do and for being there. And with this said, I'm outta here.
