Andrea's Mommy
9/18/2003 6:06:08 PM

Andrea's mother, Traci Brunk, contacted me after I had sent the poem "Andrea's Closet" to the AndreasCloset.org, hoping to offer my support in the form of the piece. She was gracious enough to send me several poems she wrote about her daughter and her death. I have her permission to post a few of her pieces here in honor of her daughter's life. This is for you, Andrea Nicole Brunk, and for you, Traci, and your husband, Kenny. Andrea's Mommy and Daddy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Parent’s and a Child’s Letter
Dear Daddy and Mommy... From: Andrea
Daddy don't cry.. Mommy don't cry.. I love you both so much..
I know what is happening and I'm OK.. I will always remember your touch.
I don't want to talk about it.. this is something I must do alone.. and maybe someday God will show you.. the harvest of seeds I have sown.
Dear Andrea... From: Daddy and Mommy
But sweetie.. we want to help you.. walk through the valley of death.. we want to be here and hold you.. when the Lord comes to take your last breath.
We woke up this morning and you were gone.. leaving us full of sorrow.. we cried many tears and were full of fear.. of how to face tomorrow.
"You are free".. we said as we said “goodbye".. to your body that was full of pain.. you are with your savior Jesus Christ.. never to hurt again.
2002 by Traci Brunk
Why?
Why does it hurt so bad to say goodbye..
to someone we love, when they have do die..?
It’s not like.."see ya later or real soon"..bye bye..
It’s more a gut wrenching pain that makes us cry.
Why does it feel like an open wound..?
That just won't heal..at least not soon..?
And why does it not help to know where they are..?
Just an open wound that will become a scar.
Why did my child go to Heaven before me..?
Is the answer locked away in a place with no key..?
Why do I miss her more everyday..?
And why do I find it so hard to pray..?
For now I'll just sit and keep asking why..
And ask God above to bottle the pool of tears that I cry.
With Love
Written 2002
Erin, this is my most recent poem. There are several in between the 3 that I have sent you, but this happens to be my personal favorite.
A Glimpse
I want to tell you about a little girl that I know.. A true gift from God.. I must say so.
She entered this world on a beautiful winter day and before I knew it she was beginning to play.
I blinked my eyes and she was running around.. bumping into walls and falling to the ground.
Dancing around the house to her favorite TV shows.. It seemed like every week, she was growing out of her clothes.
She's swimming without floaties in the back yard pool.. she's so excited, her face in beaming, today she started school.
She's writing, she's reading, she's spelling her name.. what a joy to watch this little girl grow.. I will never be the same.
Summer of 2000, she's 8 years old.. "this little girl is very sick", from the doctors we were told.. there is a sickness in her blood, she needs treatment right away.. forever in my memory will be etched that awful day.
Winter of 2002, she's almost 10 years old.. this girl with hopes and dreams, will never grow old.
She left this world peacefully on a beautiful winter day.. as I said goodbye to this little girl.. I signed my rights away.
She's in paradise with Jesus now.. at last she's finally free.. she's growing up someplace else.. it's called eternity.
And now this little girl I know is as happy as can be.. she's more than just a little girl I know.. she is a part of me.
