my epic - if you can call it that 10/14/2009 4:04:11 AM
well, here i am again, upon my soapbox. its about my latest poems, poetry is the one thing everyone loves to argue about on its interpretation, and believe me i do encourage that. the thing i find interesting is everyone expects a win loss issue. but its not about winning a battle for good or losing a battle for evil, its about keeping the balance of life. as much as we'd like to see evil wiped out forever, it cant be done without some serious side effects. the balance between good and bad keeps us from growing complacent with life, it gives us a goal to attain, something to work for, something to achieve. it basically gives us a reason why. we need the balance in life to teach us what happens when one side tips the scale the wrong way, take for example the balance between man and nature. man is beginning to tip the balance of this earth in the wrong way, overpopulation is taking a toll on our ability to feed the world, share our surroundings with the animal kingdom causing many to go extict because of neglect and many species of plant life disappearing from our planet. the balance within the rainforest is being desperately compromised. we are becomming aggressive to each other, we're ignoring people because they dont fit into our ways of life, we are beginning to think only of our own gains in life and not consider what another might need. i could probably go on and on with this, and who knows, maybe i will.
my poetry is an extension of myself, who i am as a person, how i feel about life, how i deal with my problems, the joys and sadness' i experience and how i see the world. i have been raised differently than most, i see more than most, my ideas expand to include more than most because i saw more than most experience in life. when you spend your life traveling the world as i did, you are exposed to so much more, you literally see the good, the bad, and the ugly.
yes, there are many good people in this world, there are many bad people as well, but the ugly are the ones we grow the hate, they give us reasons to show our selfish and bad sides. interesting isnt it, that they will draw the bad from us, we will be angry, hostile, hateful, vengeful and prideful, we somehow show up where they want us because our emotions create illogical responses from us that falls into their own hands. we cant seem to put ourselves above them and learn from them, we expose everyone to our vengeful side and retaliate all acts against us instead of studing the issue, reaction in a negative way, instead of a positive way. when the town bully picks on you, you retaliate and fight back, but what made the bully in the first place. why does he fight in the first place, maybe because he feels threatened and is trying to keep his place in his own little world, what is there about you that makes him feel threatened, or makes him want to feel the big cheese. reasons we dont think about but always react to cause we know we are right. being right doesnt mean we have to flaunt that rightiousness in everyones face, not everyone has compassion or humility, they are not commodities that are dealt with easily for most people.
i know i'm stepping on a lot of toes, and i do apologize for hurting anyones feelings, cause im not talking about any one person, im talking about the masses who dont want to wake up from their dream world and feel they are number one in this world. there are too many number one's floating around in this world already. some of us little people are getting tired of being trod upon. maybe that is why there are so many poets now. we're trying to wake the world up with our words. putting forth our stories, ideas, feelings, desires, needs, wants all in parables to make others think, give them options instead of following the crowd. is that wrong of us? to finally speak out and say "hay, world wake up, cant you see what your doing", my addage to that is "do we care", do we care enough to change directions and become what were suppose to be.
i cant go out in the world and be a activist for the things i believe in, but my words can, they speak for the way i feel and my mind is still sharp enough to give my words the ooomph they need to reach people. make people think, make them understand, make them want to change things. its all in the way we use our words, for we as writers are the ways to tomorrow through our words, it is up to us to use them wisely and with knowledge, compassion, humility, caring, and knowing the difference. we cant be arrogant or they wont listen to our words, we sometimes have to eat humble pie to reach them, but then there are times when we can go for the jugler vein, but only as a last resort, too many times and they turn away and not listen to us. we need to be each others sounding board with our words so when they are presented to the world they are accepted and have validity.
ok, im off my soap box again, i do hope i didnt offend anyone, but then again, maybe thats not a bad thing, it will tell me where i was wrong or right, strong or weak, or if i'm right there with everyone else, who knows unless you say it.
