Where does the weekend go? 1/16/2011 12:26:22 AM
You have it all planned out. An hour for this, an hour for that, then all of a sudden its Monday! I'm usually quite tired by Friday evening, but I could manage an hour spent finalising the cover of my latest book. Of course, that hour turns into 3 as I get distracted into looking at why my Search Inside book submission has still not worked. Waiting to hear back from Amazon.
Book Factory now want the Word document as well as the PDF as there maybe some "technical issues", so I'm concentrating on Createspace for now. Despite certain entries on the internet it does seem quite straightforward to create a cover, as long as you have your own artwork. In my case this was a quick photoshoot to get a picture of some antlers draped with stockings, a basque, a leopardskin print shoe and fronted by a beerglass. Oh yes, and designing a suitable "Over 18" logo. Take a look at some "professional" paperbacks. The covers are generally quite poor (IMHO).
All is now ready - I'll give it just one final proof read before I submit it.
If your intention is to mass market your book then this is probably not the right thing to do, however if you are after review copies (with a view to putting comments in a second edition), then this is a very cost effective way of doing so.
Saturday is just filled with children! Saturday morning football turned into a whole day tournament, so any creative work just fell by the wayside, whilst Saturday night was taken up by a birthday party.
Sunday morning, how relaxing, or maybe not. More kids football, followed by an afternoon of doublng the insulation in the loft to bring it up to the "new standard". Could this new standard be designed to increase the sales of loft insulation I wonder?
Sunday evening will be spent catching up with the NFL playoffs, and hey presto, it will soon be Monday!
