Exploitation of hard working writers 4/7/2007 2:45:17 AM
The literary world is first and foremost highly commercialised, and the Writers hard work is usually only considered in monetary terms and not literary terms
I have been writing for a few years and I have had a quite a number of articles, books, and columns published, but the literary world never ceases to amaze me with the amount of people connected to the literary profession who inform me on how interesting my work is and how he / she would like to help me further my career.
Although a lot of these people state they are interested in my work, they are in fact not prepared to pay money, but are simply trying to exploit my good nature and are only concerned with how much money they can obtain from my hard work.
I do realise that there are many genuine people connected to the literary world who actually wish to acquire my literary works and pay money for the privilege of having my works in their possession.
Therefore it is my policy that except for certain books / articles / tales of my choice that I wish to have published at my own expense, I do not pay money to contacts in the literary world for editing, reading, advertising, or other forms of media connection.
Of course if you are one of the genuine literary people who are truly interested in possessing any of my material to publish, edit, read or advertise in book form, magazine or newspaper, then by all means I look forward to receiving a respectable monetary offer from you or your company to obtain my work.
