The More II Read from my books I find that The Students are Much smarter than when I was coming along.The audience that are the New and Upcoming Teachers are a Pleasuer to see are Truely Dedicated to Teaching and most of all Fearless. When I was going to school teachers ran out of classrooms crying.leaving Black kids running around like maniacs in Public school.and if you got a s far as H.S. you were just ignored.put that together with Single parent households,where mother had to work all the Time.
You were Fucked.So its the street or Illiteracy or both most times.Now I se all the Young teachers so Young they look like the freshman at the colleges.Its good to see dedication.They have the desire to Learn about 'Diversity'it called now which is good.
This way eveybody speaks the same Language. My latest Reading at CCNY was Great Its an Honor to Be really respected as Writer.Im not a shy person.But have always been 'shy' as to reading my work.
Until I learned from Teachers Private school,music (Creative music studio) thease were heavy cats played with Miles Davis Carl Berger from Germany and his wife Ingred serso his wife have a Great school. teachers like Ornet Colman ,Anthony Braxton,Don Cherry,R.I.P Dave Holland,Dennis Charles etc. the real Jazz world.
I was Blessed.at 18 this was really the FIRST SCHOOL I was Ever in.all the students in one Large Farm House in Woodstock Ny. and as we saunted in the main room after making our own Breakfast the drummer would warm up,then the sax player then me on congas.and a half hour later the teacher would arrive.A Jazz Musician who played with Miles Davis,Quincy Jones all the Heavys.
We had concerts Improve workshops.and It really gave me direction that I needed so much.Juat as I learned what Freedom was...It was Taken away from me.I was taught that you have a responsibility to SHARE your writing,To be Free...Its not just for my personal consumption....so here I am.
