Ah, yes, having joined the Authors Den, I have taken yet another step toward making my name in the realm of published authors. The next step is to become a SUCCESSFUL published author.
That would be cool.
The fact that you are reading this now is an exciting example of why I joined the "Den." Even during my trial membership when I Googled my name my book popped up at the top of the list! And then - surprise! - I even found myself listed on a SciFan website!
How cool is that?
One could argue that just getting published is success in itself. I certainly would not disagree. Regardless of the affect my first work 'Endless' has on the reading public, I fully intend to continue my writing and to that end I am keeping busy, happily working on its sequel! Writers Block occasional rears its hideous head, but surprisingly, most times when I sit down at the laptop the story tells itself. It's amazing, this creative process.
It was Michelangelo, I believe, who looked at a slab of marble and envisioned his art - let's say David - and then began chipping away at it, removing everything that was NOT David. It was as if the statue was there all along. He just had to find it.
Writing can be like that. That's not to say I'm comparing myself to Michelangelo, but sometimes it's as if the story is there, waiting to be told - waiting for my fingers to start typing in order for the characters to reveal themselves. They are out there. Waiting. Waiting for me to bring them to life.
These are exciting times, and even though I am 'in between' jobs, I have reason to celebrate. A story that has been evolving in my mind since 1978 has finally come to its fruition; I have a wonderful family and a lovely home; I have my health.
And I have a book in hand. My book. My cover. My ideas. My story. My novel residing in the Library of Congress. My tale living in the mind of others.
