It is the day after Thanksgiving. We celebrated - my ever-growing family and I. It was a great day. Lots of food. Lots of laughs. Lots of chaos. The way it should be.
And now, I again contemplate my good fortune. I have much to be grateful for. Not just my family, but my profession, as well.
Work – I’m not sure I should call it that. It is more like art; Art that has to be performed during a certain period for which I am paid.
It's nice being paid for doing something I enjoy doing.
-Paid for orchestrating the dozen or so writers that help make the Tower Publication magazines what they are.
-Paid for providing photography to my magazines. (I can call them mine. They were created by others but I am now their guardian).
-Paid for networking with my community.
-Paid for reading and writing.
So, today I have a break from this place where I hang out during the week to make art.
"Do the work and the money will come," a good friend reminds me. Although, is it really work?
In some ways, I work 24/7, when you consider how I'm always contemplating the novel I'm writing - and the ones yet to be written. When you consider how I nearly always have my camera with me, snapping photos that may very well be used in future stories.
But is this work? Nope.
Of course, this is nothing new. I've been writing stories and taking pictures practically my entire life so, again, this thing that I do 24/7 is not even work.
Somehow, I've managed to become a writer/photographer/novelist, despite the little voice inside my head that would often tell me otherwise.
At some point the little voice was drowned out by the larger voice that pronounced in no uncertain terms, I will be a writer. I will be a photographer. And I will not just survive, but I will thrive.
