As I get more and more involved in the writing arena, I am amazed at the number of organizations that are out there just waiting to take advantage of writers. I came across one today that professes to help writers "self-publish" their ebooks. The site provides the software, for $50, and writers can list their books on the site for $10 a month.
The software converts the ebooks to HTML format, but it is only readable from a Windows-based PC. It is not compatible with any of the many reading devices out there.
It doesn't take much to figure out that this website exists only for the purpose of collecting the $10 monthly fee from its writers. It doesn't advertise, is not a member of any publishing organizations, and has no marketing that I could see.
Folks, I know how hard it is to get published-- believe me, I KNOW. But if you have to pay someone to publish your book, that is how they are getting their money-- not from selling your book, but from bilking you.
