I had the best of intentions. Really I did. My kids told me that A-Kon was definitely the place to go and get a table to sell copies of my books. So I've been watching the A-Kon website for absolutely ever- or for at least six months- ever since the last A-Kon. And on the page where it has information about the Komics Alley where small pubs can also purchase tables, they continually had a message saying details would be posted in January.
Well silly me. I thought that when they said January, they were thinking in civil service terms and wouldn't actually get around to updating anything until, oh, mid-January. But these guys are on the ball! They posted the information on January 1st and by the 3rd they were sold out!
Nuts! See, the great thing about A-Kon is it is in the DFW Metroplex so I wouldn't have to travel. And my kids always go so it would give me a great excuse to bug them (You should have seen my daughter's face when I mentioned that we could share a hotel room!) And it's absolutely huge!
Oh well. My bad. I'm on a waiting list, probably behind about ten million other idiots like me who waited too long.
So I've learned my lesson. The next time they say they will be posting info in January- I will be there at the stroke of midnight. As soon as the ball drops- I'll be staking my claim.
And if I don't make A-Kon this year and you do, have a great time. And if you see my kids, tell them to behave or you'll tell their mom.
