Coffee, Tea and Friendship 7/23/2006 2:30:41 PM
A week ago, on a Sunday noontime, I had a quick cuppa with Mary Hunt, a friend and ex-colleague. Not that she's a friend, but she's one of those corporate IT managers I so admire and respect. My coffee was hot and so was her tea, talk was animated and pleasantries exciting. Like almost all of our occasional meetings, this afternoon was unplanned. She usually calls when she's nearby, shopping. Only when I'm available, she qualifies. Great! And fortunately, I usually am. Our chats? We don't need to agree all the time, which makes our exchanges even more stimulating. Why? Our respect for each other is understood, an ever-present component.
Our talk over a cuppa for me and lunch for her, was a great respite. Somehow, I needed the break as recent weeks have been hectic coping with life demands, although not in the least complaining. Well, I suppose we need the occasional reminder that friends are special to our growth. I mean friends who add value to each other's relationship. Often, and I believe this, our paths cross with a reason. We cycle a portion of the plan for one another. In a way, I call this a gift, and being such, we need to offer gratitude.
The day was good and I appreciate a friend. What a difference a day makes, when friendship matters.
