How off beam can you be? The American Atheist website <http://www.atheists.org/Atheism/mind.html> Also gives some very interesting, and extremely simplistic, etymologistic information on the concept mind.
If you really want to read a thesis on stupidity and simple-mindedness, you have to read what the American atheists say about ‘mind. It is very hard to imagine that this could have been written by adults. Let us try to bear their rigorous narrow-mindedness for a moment longer!
They claim that, “Because mind was a noun, it was conceived to be a thing. Because it was thought to be a thing, it was thought to have existence apart from the brain. Because it has independent existence, it was thought capable of survival after the death of the body. And millions thought that to be good reason to invest millions in that greatest of all businesses, religion.”
What can I say; because ‘management’ (mind) was thought to be a thing (a noun, people); it was thought to have existence apart from the ‘organisation’ (the body). Because management has independent existence, it was thought capable of survival after the death of the organisation. Well, obviously management (people) exists apart from the organisation (two or more people working together towards a common goal) and if the organisation dissolves the people carries on nevertheless and vice versa. Now who is to say that there is no life after death – please proof this fact to me scientifically? However, I do agree that religion is one of the biggest (greatest?) of all businesses in the world and possibly the oldest organised business.
Again they continue, “Neurobiological studies show all these ideas to be quite worthless [?]. Mind is a process, a dynamic relation, and not a thing. If we change the processes of the brain, we change the mind. The psychedelic drugs have taught us that fact, if nothing else. The history of western philosophy and religion, as well as science, would have been quite different if the word mind had developed as a verb instead of as a noun [?].”
Really! Physical science now can ‘proof’ or ‘disproof’ spiritual understanding! Management (mind) is a ‘decision-making process’, a dynamic relation, and a thing (people!). If we change the processes of management, we change the physical manifestations of organisation. If light (mind) is shone through a lens (brain) and the lens is then deformed will it not influence the (physical) result? What are these people trying to say?
Now for their final dud on the concept mind, “To wonder where the mind goes after the brain decays is as silly as asking where the 70-miles-per-hour have gone after a speeding auto has crashed into a tree [?]. Just as the relative motion of an auto can be altered only within certain limits and still represent the process called ‘speeding,’ so too we can alter the functioning of the brain only so much before the process called ‘mind’ or ‘thinking’ becomes altered out of existence [?].”
What an imbecilic analogy! Is it silly to ask where management (the people and not the process) goes after the organisation (the body) dissolves? How fast they go is of no consequence to me! Nada!
