Why do writers attend conferences? I just returned from FCRW's SOUTHERN LIGHTS and am pumped! I can't wait to apply what I've learned to my current project, ROCKY'S ROAD TO LOVE.
I guess my #1 reason for attending conferences is to re-motivate myself. Just as we attend church on Sunday for a spiritual vitamin shot, I get a needed dose of motivation from other writers gathered at a conference.
#2 reason is to further hone my craft. I never fail to learn something new, either from a speaker or another author, about writing and publishing.
#3 reason is the fellowship. In no other commercial organization have I found my competition eager to help me sell! It's true. Authors, particularly romance authors, are generous to their colleagues. In return, I try to help others who are trying to learn the industry.
#4 reason is to network. Conferences offer me the opportunity to talk to editors, pitch my books, pick up tips about new lines, etc.
#5 reason. Eat chocolate! Hard as I try to resist, I indulge.
