Lame duck or crippled quack?

I have heard the phrase lame duck used to describe a politician near the end of his/her term in office. Ultimately, the origin comes from the idea that a lame duck is unable to move or accomplish anything at all. In speaking about Bush, Robert Dallek recently said, “He’s not a lame duck yet, but there are ramblings.”
I had a pet duck that I was very fond of when I was a kid, so, in defense of our fine feathered friends everywhere I would rather think of Mr. Bush as a crippled quack.
