For the April, 2006 Edition of UFO Magazine I wrote a piece of futurist speculation within a sci fi story entitled, "Machine Meat." I'm going to quote extensively but the important part is the last paragraph:
"Yes, the second Bush Administration stripped away freedom and rights and replaced them with fear. In fact that was the administration that legitimately made elections a thing of the past and so every administration in its wake was an extension of it. All of that is true. Also true is that we let it happen.
"Why did we let it? Why did we idle while our leaders carpet-bombed us with lies and terror until we lost ourselves in entertainment technology? Did our leaders mirror our inner urge to transcend the current human state? Did they turn our urge backwards on us, like a true reflection, so that when we asked for world peace we got world war?
"When we demanded a global village we got global domination. When we sought to close the communication gap, we ended up gentrifying nations and ultimately merging with the communication device. The War on Terror gave way to Nature’s War on Humans. Nations went extinct in the blink of an eye when massive earthquakes triggered volcanic eruptions and unprecedented global tsunamis. Nuclear plants exploded like popcorn. The sky became one mega storm cloud that never left. Meteorologists who used to talk about “wacky weather” were swallowed up by it. Billions died; billions survived."
This is not a safe prediction because earthquakes are not supposed to cause volcanic activity except in rare circumstances--so says science, but science is wrong because scientists are missing the bigger picture: this galaxy is a giant clock ticking down. The localized mechinations include earthquakes triggering volcanoes. That which was not working in tandem for so very long is now clicking into lockstep.
