In book promotion news, I did an interview with my HOA (Home Owner’s Association) editor about my book release. It’s no Dallas Morning News, but it’s fun to be the “resident of the moment” in your neighborhood. And of course, this day is not complete without hearing ALL the candidates slog it out on local radio and TV to win over the Lone Star State. It occurs to me how very much each candidate’s spiel is (or should be) equivalent to a good query letter. Today, Agent Nathan Bransford has a few thoughts on the do’s and don’ts of this type of authorial campaigning.
And it also reminded me of the time years ago when I was the recipient of hundreds of daily query letters. I worked at a local literary agent’s office as the submissions director (read: mail opener) and read a memorable pitch from a prison inmate, written in long-hand on notebook paper. As I recall, his submission was about cell-block romance.
