Pepper Spray Anyone ever been pepper sprayed? Ouch. I think what really hurts is that I didn't even fight a cop or tackle a renegade mailman to get sprayed. So why get sprayed? Well it seems that it is required for me and most military personnel to get a Level 1 exposure. Level 1, means that the spray is spray directly to the face, skin, eyes and such. That was not enough though, after being sprayed I went through a series of offensive and defensive manuevers such as knee kicks arm and hand strikes, and weapons retention.
Why get sprayed? Well so I know that I can continue to fight even after being sprayed. I found this experience to be a once in a lifetime experience. Once because no one should have to endure this pain in the service of their country, that is unless they are using an appropraite level of force against the good guys.
I could not open my eyes for about 30 minutes. My face and eyes were on fire even after being rinsed with cool water. after about an hour I started to regain control over my eyelids and could keep them open long enough to monitor my surroundings. Over two hours later I was still in some pain but chose to drive home anyway. Imagine if I would have had an accident, It was my choice to drive and I do not believ I endangered anyone but certainly I was not fully focused on driving.
